Snapshot of the Desert

Today’s drawing features a piece of artwork from the 2007 Invitational Death Valley Art Show & Sale.  During the show, you must start a Plein Air drawing/painting of something seen within the Death Valley area.

The challenge of this is to actually complete something before Sunday morning breakfast/auction.  All artists are allowed to start their piece of artwork on Thursday, but must have it completed and framed by Sunday @ 8:00 am.  For many, this is completely do-able.  For me, this was a HUGE challenge, since my drawings take so much time to complete (see Frequently Asked Questions –> https://geridunn.wordpress.com/faq/  ).  When I completed it Saturday night, I was relieved to have completed the drawing.  During the Sunday morning auction, it was sold for $350, with half of the profit going towards the annual Death Valley Scholarship.

I really enjoyed this drawing, because it was study in values and tones taken in the late afternoon, when the shadows are long.  Hope you like it!!!
